2010 – I come across cloud computing
I have always been a curious person when it comes to tech, money, and personal growth.
Back in 2010 when I completed my Bachelor in Engineering in Information Technology, I came across the term “Cloud Computing” during my college days. At the time, I had no idea what that meant. However, reading about it more, I realized it piqued my interest and I decided this is what I wanted to pursue as a career.
2011-2014 – Pursuing Higher Education
My curiosity led me to pursue a Master’s in Computer Science with a specialization in Distributed Systems and Cloud Computing from one of the top 25 Graduate Schools for Computer Science in the United States.
2014-2016 – My First Job Not What I Had Expected
My first job right after college was working on Embedded Systems and developing software for Xerox. 6 months into the job I realized this is not something I was interested in. However, I learned a lot from my peers and gained hands-on experience by working on real products.
So I decided to learn and acquire full-stack skills for developing enterprise web applications. I worked on side projects in Java, Spring, and Angular.
2016 – Current – Engineer to Architect
I got a job as a Programmer/Analyst developing customized solutions for enterprise web applications used in clinical trials. I also got good exposure to dealing with non-technical stakeholders.
However, I realized I needed a change after supporting projects for a couple of years. Hence, I switched positions within the company to join the core software development group.
Towards the end of 2019, my company launched a cloud initiative where we decided to build a SaaS-based cloud product on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Since I was eager to learn how applications worked in the cloud, I started doing side projects and learning more about the AWS services we used within the company.
In 2021, I decided to get AWS certified and completed 3 certifications. This further helped me get promoted to Senior Software Engineer and Cloud Architect role within my team.
Today, I design cloud architecture strategies and solutions and work closely with business stakeholders and development teams. I also maintain the cloud infrastructure for 5 applications across 4 environments in AWS.
